Forgot the critical info: this is on a Leopard-installed (10.5.1)
PowerBook G4. with VPC 7.01 (I have 7.03, but am waiting until I
resolve this problem).

I get an error message upon launching VirtualPC when I try to launch
Internet Explorer:

"Virtual Switch networking could not be started.
Permissions for the support files were set correctly, but Virtual
Switch failed to load. Please report this problem to Microsoft (Code
A1004). Virtual PC will run without Virtual Switch networking."

I gather from some others posts (http://groups.google.com/group/
microsoft.public.mac.virtualpc/browse_frm/thread/
0b11aa79411a80e4/53bf860bdfea7de4#53bf860bdfea7de4)
that someone is able to get a connection, but the problem doesn't
seem to be the same (?).

Anyone know how to work around this?

Thanks,

Torsten

Yep, found the same problem, doing a rebuild on my G4
Was running 10.4.10, didn’t realize software update had moved on to 10.4.11.

“Virtual Switch networking could not be started.

Permissions for the support files were set correctly, but Virtual Switch failed to load.
Please report this problem to Microsoft (Code: A1004).
Virtual PC for Mac will run without Virtual Switch networking.”

I heard 10.4.11 did something to Bonjour, but I don’t know if this has anything to do with it.

Everything worked well for me using 10.4.10 and VPC 7.03
This machine is only used for printing from a RIP under Win2k.

Any help would be appreciated,
Don

Virtual PC 7.0.1 was released BEFORE 10.4.x (Tiger) and is not
completely compatible with Tiger (specifically Virtual Switch
Networking). That was the reason for the release of Virtual PC 7.0.2.
Since then, there was a small possible vulnerability found in Virtual
PC 7.0.2 and they released a patch in version 7.0.3

So, to answer your question, install Virtual PC 7.0.1 and then update
to 7.0.3 and the issue will be resolved.

Yes, you are correct.
Solved my problem.
Thank You very much, Paul.

Don

P.S. Can I use a USB 2.0 card with this setup?

Thanks again
Don
