I have created a guest XP Pro pc. I would like to create two
additional XP Pro workstations.

Rather then having to create two new virtual pc and install the
software from scratch, is there a way to just duplicate the original
guest XP Pro pc two more times?

I have enough valid licenses to be able to support the setup I
require.

Thank you

Look at differencing disks in the VPC help, it will do exactly what
you want.

You can always use copy/paste on the VPC files. After that just run newsid
inside the new virtual machines, this will change the machines names and
changing all the security identifiers that are unique for every machine.

NewSid is a supported tool by Microsoft, so don't worry about using it.
Here's the link:

Hope it helps

I'll have to try this. I think this is more to what I need. When
doing the copy paste, is it both the vmc and vhd file that I need to
copy/paste and I guess there would be nothing wrong with renaming them
so as to make it different from the original?

Does each simultaneously running VM get a unique MAC
address for the NIC, like a 'virtual MAC address for a
virtual NIC', or do they all use the MAC address of the
real NIC, thinking that they have sole use of it?

A VM can't use the host MAC address, MAC's must be unique, otherwise
you run into all sorts of networking issues.

Thanks guys. That makes perfect sense.

If you use a copied vhd, you still need to start the duplicated machine and
give it a different NETBIOS name. (Better yet, use that sysinternals tool
listed above.) If you try to run both the original and the copy, you'll have
a duplicate machine name on your network.

A better idea is to copy the vhd file, rename it then create a new vm
using that vhd.

If you copy the .vmc file as well you will have additional "clone"
problems, like duplicated MAC addresses for the NICs.

If you create a new vm, it will have a different MAC address for its NIC.
Neither vm will have the same MAC address as the host.

Virtual Machine Network Services, which interacts with the device driver
for the host NIC, delivers the network traffic to the correct OS based on
the MAC address.

For sending data, VMNS delivers the frame to be sent to the device
driver of the physical NIC.
