We installed the newest version of Virtual PC (downloaded a few days ago),
and installed Win 2003 as the guest OS. The host machine is an IBM Think Pad
T61with 2gb of RAM, 2ghz Dual Core 2 cpu, and Nvida Quadro FX570M with 512mb
of ram.
In the guest OS, the mouse is extremely slow and jumpy. When I look at the
"frames" number that Virtual PC displays, it jumps all over the place, form 0
to 50's with most of the numbers in the below 25 range.
The identical install on a different, older and slower, machine does not
have this problem.

Yes, I just looked in the guest and it shows up in "add/remove programs" as
installed, and if I hit "Install or remove..." from the Virtual PC window it
only wants to delete them. I was not there for the original install, they are
only bugging me now because it is not working.
I have not tried deleting them and reinstalling because the prompt mentions
a CD, and the version we have was a download from MS's site. I did not want
to get in to a situation where I could not put them back.

When you use the Action menu in the window of the running guest to
install the Additions VPC2007 will automatically mount an ISO file on
the guest optical drive as the setup CD. Then it launches the
Additions setup if you have autoplay enabled.
If you cancel the install I bet the ISO stays mounted on your guest
optical drive so you can do whatever you like.

Hi Vincent,
Have you installed the Virtual Machine Additions in your guest?

That did it. I had forgotten that screen even existed. I have no idea why,
but they had the slider all he way to the left. Changing that fixed it.
Thanks!

Doesn't sound like you upgraded your tools on the VM when you upgraded VPC.

Since you've already installed the Additions, try going into the display
properties of the guest, Advanced, then on the Troubleshooting tab, make
sure the acceleration slider is all of the way to the right.

Hi
Had same problem, even installing VMAdditions didn't do the trick.
You should try to turn off any CPU power saving feature, as the CPU
"throttling" feature used on most laptops messes the timing in VPC.
Try to set the power plan of the laptop to "High Performance", and you
should experience much better mouse and UI performance in guest systems.

I posted the answer to this mouse issue elsewhere in the thread.
